Title: [Introduce yourself here]
Post by: Javier (gp) on September 06, 2009, 04:14:00 PM
It is always nice to say "hello" when you come to a place for the first time... so we leave this space for you to introduce yourselves (keep it in English please!) and say a few words ;) Quite offtopic though, so don't worry very much about what you say.

You can show us a picture if you wish, but a "hello I'm ** from **" is good as well  ;)

Hi there!
I'm David, a geek from Barcelona (Spain).
I'm following the project since the keynote (via Xataka and others) and I'm very interested in both aspects, the great feedback with Geek's Phone and a good device like the One.

Good luck!

Hi all.

My name is Sergio Molina, and I found you by Xataka. Since this I follow you. Nowadays I'm on a "Forced Formation Period", but last thing I did was manage the after-sales of computer machines.

One collects all things I request on a mobile phone, and I can ensure I'm very demanding with them. The idea is very good, and if break-even is low, is fantastic.

It's unusual to see a company of this kind around here. Congratulations.

Hi there.
I just registered here.
I'm Henxu a Baccalaureate student, but, I'm really addicted to Mobile Phones. (Though I started a phone blog proyect, which failed...I'm looking for supporters to start over)
I've following this since it was announced at Xataka and I found it very interesting.
1st of all because it had the same shape as my nowadays mobile phone (i900 Omnia) and of course , it was/and will be an Android OS phone.
And the 2nd reason was that the phone was developed by a Spanish Company (I know that lot of ideas/improvements are made from China's workers also I'm Chinese too).
Just hope the best for you.
-------------------------------------------
Buenas.

Cool news. So the two devices are exactly the same?
Check  http://vobis.ru/product/highscreen-zeus/ (http://vobis.ru/product/highscreen-zeus/)
Does this mean both companies worked or are going to work together?
Also... will there be a difference in the price?

Hi, I'm Albert btw :P

Highscreen is just a rebrand. The phone was created jointly by geeksphone and Commtiva; and geeksphone is the official brand for Europe (commtiva for Asia)
In hardware its the same phone, in software the geeksphone has some extra features.

Hi everyone,

my name is Franci, I'm a senior programmer in a software company, I've been working developing Desktop applications for Windows for 10 years (powerbuilder, delphi,...). In my free time I use to develop command line programs in java for linux and other unix flavors, that sometimes  I release with GPL license. Now I want to learn to develop applications for android, to do my hackings.

Heya !
The name's PaKaP, I'm from France, and I'm a geek (though I lack the programming/webdesign/electronics chops of, y'know, real geeks). I study translation, and am currently working in the same field (and by the way, if you guys need anything done in that regard, I'd be happy to oblige).

That being said, well...I heard about the ONE on some mobile-related blog while shopping for a new phone. Hesitated between it and the Hero for about two days, then ordered the ONE, partly because of the root access thing, but mainly because I'd much rather give 300€ to a little Spanish venture than to HEC/SE/whoever.

Hope all goes well, looking forward to playing with it once I get it.

See ya,

PaKaP

Hello everybody. I'm a master's student in embedded systems and a huge free software fan. I own a NEO Freerunner and am also very happy to be test-driving NEO's anagram.

I'm Turkish but currently living in The Netherlands, until end of my studies.

I like calling myself an "apprentice hacker" as my current exploits are very basic like powering my GP2X from a Li-ion battery or reflashing my NEO's NOR flash without a debug board.

Hi all new fellows,

My name is Christophe, while I am Belgian, I am living in Toulouse, France, for now.

Free software enthusiast for quite a few years, I took a break from technology time consumption some time ago (work + free time in IT was too much ;-).
Although, surprisingly, I entered the 3G era on the iPhone wave. This put me back in contact with the news in IT world and revived my free sotware spirit.
Looking for an open solution, I recently found the GP One based on Android, which I just received tonight :-)

I am just happy with your initiative to get an open phone ready in Europe. Thank you for launching that !
I am a bit impatient to try it now, being lurking the forum to grab some doc in order to start up, eh !

The French wiki needs your help, by the way. Translation, app reviews, anything you can do really.

Espérons que cela s'améliore en 2011..... :)

Hi everybody, my name is Kike, i'm pretty odler than most geekphoners, anyway, i'm ONE now.
Not really a geek but i'm very interested in Android. Geeksphone ONE seems the tool i need to get in, good price, nice community and great reviews across the web.

I don´t really care if ONE is spanish or not, i'm convinced that buying stuff just because is from any contry is not good for anyone. What i liked more wasn't the nationality but the presence of Javier and Rodrigo in every forum where people discussed about their "baby". The look great people, concerned about their customers, no one else in phone industry does.

I'll switch it on tonight and i'll write as soon as i can my "newbie review" in my blog. Sorry about this horrible english, lack of practice.

Regards

Kike

thank you for making a great phone. ;D
unfortunately the other night my one died and when i went to charge it it booted into recovery mode and resets every 30 seconds or so, not giving me enough time to either restore or reset it and i am at a lost right now.
this does not degrade my opinion of you phone i am just having a technical difficulty right now with it :(

Great project and even though I tried buying a GP ONE but was unable to through the website because its currently out of stock I plan on buying all your future products. this is an amazing concept for geeks and should be supported. I hope this company stays profitable and succeeds while retaining the amazing relationships with customers. best of luck and all my support! you guys rock.

Hi,
I'm Martin from Germany - I ordered a zero today and looking forward to be part of the community in the future - it's a good thing to support smaller and more independent companies beside the big players in the market - I was always a supporter and customer of Palm (from Palm III to the Pre) but now its part of HP so I switched to Android and Geeksphone seems to be what I'm looking for ;-) - please think about a phone like the SE Xperia Mini Pro - but with better hardware and without all the SE vaporware - the size and the keyboard are perfect but the display and the performance are so bad ...  - I'm a hardware-keyboard-fan so I'm looking forward to the next devices ...

Hi, I am also new on this forum, I received my GP One last week and I am getting familiar with it. I was looking for a Smartphone, tried out the Openmoko Freerunner for some time now, but I wanted to get something smaller, yet as performant. And it was on an Openmoko Forum that I first heard from the Geeksphone. So, here I am, and I am looking forward to being part of this community, which is a major reason for my choice.

By the way, I am from Luxembourg ;)

Hi Jacob:
Welcome here :) I hope you enjoy the forum and the project :)
Regarding the TWO, first of all, let me say that there are no closed specs, so what you have read in the forum, is probably, what people will like the TWO to have, but Geeksphone have the project still open. About when we can hope it... well.. only FSM know that... but I'm also waiting for it anxiously :)

Well, my name is Jaume and I just learned about geekphone. I am a happy linux user in my computer, and I like the idea of a strong community helping each others. I would love to have a phone with root access, even more if it is backed by a community of geeks pushing the limits of technology and ensuring a smooth user experience.

I will ask more details to those friends of mine that are experts in the matter and if they recommend it, then my next phone is going to be a geekphone!

Hello! Got my new Zero yesterday, a parcel truck drove up around 2 pm, less than 45 hours after my registration -- very quick delivery I must say! It spent the night charging and I have spent the day trying to backup my old phone before I stick the sim in. Tomorrow I'll try to get a SDu card too and then really get my feet wet!

Just a friendly tip: For my poor aging eyes it is very difficult to read the miniscule print in the pocket-size manual and my magnifying glass is worn out. Would it be unkind to ask for a pdf version of this (and maybe others) manual on the support webpages, for example? Presumably there exists already an electronic layout for the printers.

All the best,
R

Hello everyone, my name is Arthur Alves, and I'm from São Paulo, Brazil.

I am a game design student and I always enjoy reading and discovering more about web design, interfaces and everything related.

I'm starting to learn HTML5, and I hope to make a lot of small projects for Firefox OS Geeks'Phones in the future, and maybe try new ways to connect web apps with traditional gaming.

Hey there, I'm Sammy. French guy living in Germany. I've been programming since I was 13 (which is something like 30 years ago). I wrote a couple of games for Android ('Circuits' and 'PinIt' if anyone wants to check them out. I just need to remember to set the price at "free" some day :/ a couple of years ago, and have been developing a web CMS specialized for mobile devices at a small but fine german company. Not much HTML5 in it, but plenty of javascript (along with some perl, python, bash scripts and of course the mess that is PHP). Looking forward to play around with Firefox OS (whenever my Peak ships :P

Hi, I'm Gerrit Jan Dreijer, owner of Dreijer industrial automation. I program machine- and process controlsystems worldwide.
I don't really need a smartphone, or to be honest, I think they are useless. To small to be a proper tablet, a batterylife that makes it useless as a phone. That's why I use a Sonim phone: lot's of noise, waterproof, and two weeks without loading the battery. THAT's a phone!

But, I also hate to see all those people around me with apple an google gear. I think it is importand to have a choice in operating systems and privacy. That is why I did buy a peak, to support fxos and geeksphone, and as a toy. And maybe I want to make one or two apps and test it on my phone.

Want to support an open source phone operating system.  Should lead to a better eco system for apps and generally to a more healthy environment for mobile communications.  Anthony

Hi folks, my name is Lilly, I'm a tech enthusiast as well as a dedicated BlackBerry focused Blogger .   I love technology in general and often dig into new platforms for fun. I was sent a Peak by a friend so I decided to flash the latest stable 2.1 witch seems an improvement over the 1.1.1 the device came with.  I plan on following this platform for a bit and learn the ins and outs. for now i'll stick with the Peak and keep up with the nightly builds and will add any feedback I have.   see ya around :)

Hi, I've been interested in a more open source hardware/software approach for years now. I was interested in an OpenMoko phone but I think they closed down. My last mobile (I just bought a Geekphone Revolution) was a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. It's a model that has problems like low memory, and internal storage, although it does have a good camera. The memory problems are bad though that sometimes the phone would reset in the middle of doing things. I did look into rooting it to install Cyanogenmod in order to solve some of the memory and storage problems (syn linking apps to external storage and getting around Google's attitude towards people's external SD cards). But it looked like a nightmare. Not easy, and I can build a Linux kernel and install a Linux OS, etc, etc. This was all really good examples of corporate branding and vendor lock in mentality that really started ticking me off. So to find a phone prerooted, with a choice of OS's is a BIG problem solved for me.

 Introduce yourself..?
Okay so I'm new to Y!A and the only place I really go is the baby name section so I would just like to introduce myself and would like some of you to do the same so we can get acquainted.

Just say a little something   about (http://aboutmens.com/) yourself :)

Okay so, hi there!
I'm Brittany. Brittany Kate are my first and middle names.
I hate being a Brittany - there is so many around now! :(
I am 21, the oldest of 5 kids and I love my siblings and parents dearly.
I have the most beautiful daughter named Lydia Violet (< that's her in my picture)
She is really cheeky and girly.
Her dad, my boyfriend sadly passed away when Lydia was four months old.
He was well and truly the love of my life and even though I know I will meet someone else one day, Lee will always hold a place in my heart.
I live in Leeds, England and work for Leeds City Council.
I do love my job but the best part of my day is spending time with my beautiful daughter.

Some of my favourite baby names apart from my daughters are;
Luna Gabrielle (girl)
Ella Madeline (girl)
Kellan Adam (boy)
Rylan James (boy)

Okay so that's me, what about you? :)
