Phone won't boot
« on: May 07, 2011, 11:50:24 AM »
After having used the ONE for several months without any problems, the phone won't boot.

Yesterday, I pulled the battery from the phone, for several hours while it was unacceptable to have a phone.  When I put the battery back in, the phone wouldn't boot.  I hold the power button for a moment, feel the vibrate, and the "ONE Limited Edition" screen comes up, sits there for several minutes, then reboots. Repeat. Doing anything with the power button appears to have no effect.

It may be worth noting that despite having upgraded to RCMod 4, this screen still says RCMod 3.0.

If I interrupt the cycle by pulling power again, I can try camera+volume-up+power to boot into safemode.  When I do this, it flashes the "ONE Limited Edition" screen, then shows a picture of the phone with folders flying out of it.  It locks up here; holding the power button appears to have no effect.

When you see the picture of the phone with folders flying out of it, try pushing alternatively, white and green button, several times, not very fast, because if you go very fast, you can push an undesired key when the menu appears.

When the menu appears, do a backup, then a wipe, and then reboot. Each action has an entry in the menu. You can use Volume Up and Down to navigate the menu, and the green key (or was it the white one?) to select an option.

I hope you have backup of your important data.

If everything goes well, the phone should reboot normally, but without data, restore it (contacts should restore automatically from your google account) and continue enjoying your phone.

If someone proposes a better solution, you could restore the backup, and try it.

If data of a particular application is very important and you have no backup, you could try to back it up manually using ADB. You can enable ADB support from recovery menu. Copy /data/data/[your.application] directory to your SD, and restore it when the phone boot.

Do you try it several times?

If you try it several times and it does not work, I think you should send the phone to the SAT.

Yeah. I guess I'll have to send it off to the SAT. The address is sat@geeksphone.com, right?

Just a last test... Try with white and red buttons alternatively, instead of green and white, I think I was wrong.
