24 hour clock request and other goodies
« on: October 08, 2013, 07:26:30 AM »
We are living in a part of the world where pm and am doesn't mean nothing, We are using the 24 hour format, could you please add a switch in the settings for that.
Also I'm really confused about missing the original Cyrillic alphabet keyboard order - the Bulgarian one.
Not Russian or Serbian, they are not the original, everyone knows this even Russians. It's a good thing that they were separated from the original just Cyrillic, but still all the keyboard have messed order of letters.

The Cyrillic alphabet is approved by the EU and they are using and translating all the documents, because Bulgaria is in EU. You are selling product in EU, so you have to support all the languages in it.

Sorry, but i think that you are wrong. If you read this forum you will see that we dont change (if is not a bug) any code from Mozilla Firefox OS. If you think that this is an error or a not implemented feature, please open a bug/feature request in bugzilla.

Ah, and we in Spain also use 24 hours format...

As I can see the clock format depends the language that you choose. When I choose Spanish the 24h format works, when I change it to English the AM/PM appears.

But the format of the hours in clock is a FirefoxOS feature (or lack of).

In Wikipedia we can see more information about the "culture" of AM/PM versus 24h formats:
Quote
The 24-hour clock enjoys broad everyday usage in most countries outside North America, Australia, India and the Philippines, at least when time is written or displayed. In some regions, for example most German, French and Romanian speakers, use the 24-hour clock today even when speaking casually, while in other countries the 12-hour clock is used more often in spoken form.

You are barking on the wrong tree. Geeksphone truly doesn’t develop stuff like that. Consider either:

a) switching to some more reasonable locale (Ireland? UK?)
b) filing a bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org (which is the only place where you have some chance for getting help; of course, if you attach the patch, it would be even more awesome)

Ok it's not a bug it's feature. I love that sentence :)
I'll try to fill up feature request in bugzilla, but the 24 hour clock shouldn't be really dependable on the language. I'm in Bulgaria, I don't see a Bulgarian in the language list, and I don't speak German or Spanish, french yes, but, well, I don't want it.

P.S. it's marked as wontfix.....

I like this sentence too... all depends from the point of view.

Sorry about the Wontfix. It's not in our hands to fix it. The problem is that a locale is glued to a language, so if there is not bulgarian language the time, and all the other things stored in the locales will be lost. :(

partners are the ones who decide which locales are included into the versions we are shipping.

So I don't understand, who should include it in the build, since Mozilla are the devs, and the downloads are from you

Thanks for the bug info.

This is Mozilla opinion, but they asked us to take out a bunch of languages in earlier releases (as you can see in the forum with French language). That's why  some languages are not present in 1.1 and 1.2 and are present in master.

Anyway we cannot add bulgarian (bg) because the localization is not finished. As you can see here:

BG https://hg.mozilla.org/gaia-l10n/bg/file/33f53ee63120/apps
IT https://hg.mozilla.org/gaia-l10n/it/file/865105a8df34/apps
ES https://hg.mozilla.org/gaia-l10n/es/file/61cfa8f177ae/apps

In BG there is a lack of files needed. Maybe you can try to get in touch with bulgarian localizer and ask if help is needed. Once the localization is finished we could talk about add it to the GP images (this will not be a problem, dont worry)
