Firefox OS & Tizen alliance (?)
« on: December 10, 2013, 02:09:19 AM »
Hello everybody,

I'd like to know your opinion about Samsung and Mozilla working together?

http://firefoxosguide.com/firefox-os/samsung-seeking-help-mozilla-salvage-tizen-os.html/

In my opinion, Mozillla's firefox OS should NOT collaborate with Samsung's Tizen OS. I think that Samsung's Tizen is the only one in this "collaboration" who can profit by apps. As I know the "Bada Times" (R.I.P. 2010 - 2013), I can't imagine that Samsung will push Tizen OS

I think Firefox OS is famous and strong enough to survive without any "fake help" from Samsung. :P

Tell me what you think about  :)
Geeksphone Revolution
ZTE Open C (FFOS 2.2)
Samsung Wave II

Havin' problems with connecting your GP Revolution with ADB or want to add some features or some improvements? Try my little scripting project "FIREFOXER" and tell me your opinion :-)

that's funny because, I thought that Tizen was dead... It's a thing we hear about sometimes, like Meego and others...

the FFOS webapps are built on open specifications that are note created *only* for FFOS: http://www.w3.org/2012/sysapps/manifest/ it comes from the W3C!!!
So, ideally, an app developed for FFOS work in firefox (not OS, and it will from FF27 if I'm not mistaken), IE, opera... whatever you want. we already can transform a FFOS webapp into an app for iOS or android (it is actually a bit tricky, but it should be work-less soon, depending on iOS and android...) https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Apps/Developing/Apps_for_Android .

the goal is: one language to rule them all. You write your application in HTML5 and it works on windows, linux, OSX, iOS (but you can't put it in their marketplace if your app is free software... lol...), android, FFOS. (this is great, at least for little applications. you won't write a big program in HTML5 because you simply can't: no real threads, chaotic structure...)

there IS some APIs that are specific to FFOS, but from the beginning, mozilla want to make them standard everywhere.

sharing a marketplace, or create different ones, or even let the programmers create their own marketplace... what is the difference?

in Debian, I have the default repositories. I added those from mozilla to get the latest beta firefox. I installed some programs by downloading them directly from their original website...

Another important thing: FFOS is still in beta (in my opinion)... There is no file manager (lol?) and by default, there is not even a calculator installed! you have to download one from the marketplace where the apps are sorted by an unknown criterion that we cannot change (obviously, it is not alphabetic, nor by note or by comments...) and you find hundreds of calc apps that are more or less well written... Some simply doesn't work while some others need an internet connection oO
maybe mozilla needs some helps...

Well in my opinion Samsung is the bad guy and Firefox OS the good guy. Samsung only works for its own interests and they take every chance to push their System "Tizen OS" which is a mixture of Bada, MeeGo and so on... I think that is not a real collaboration or alliance. Samsung "works together" with Mozilla as long as Tizen OS is too bad to survive alone. After this period of time they will ignore Firefox OS... At the moment they are just pissed off that Firefox OS is stronger in the media. I mean they wanted to release Tizen OS phone(s) in the 2nd part of 2013 (!) and they still are not sure if they can release it in the first quarter of 2014...  ???  ::)

But hey, nobody needs a Tizen phone: Samsung will release a "Tizen refrigerator"  :D ;D

http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/11/samsung-reportedly-launching-tizen-powered-smart-fridge-at-ces-2014/

I can't wait to chat over ChatOn with my refrigerator about the old vegetables inside ;D :D

Samsung proved with Bada that they are not the best software developers - so why should Firefox OS support this without any profits? IN MY OPINION Tizen offers no profits for Firefox OS

1) Do not believe rumors like that, only believe things that are confirmed by people who have an actual say or by official press releases or something like that.

2) This is a Geeksphone forum, not a Tizen, Samsung or Mozilla one, so I'm not sure this is a discussion that really fits on this site at all, even in the "Offtopic" section.

3) If other companies want to implement the APIs that Mozilla creates for Firefox OS (and is or will be pushing to standardize), that's surely a good thing for the whole Web App ecosystem! :)
