Install rcmod4 without sd-card?
« on: May 05, 2011, 08:41:55 AM »
  I have the following problem: SD-card can not be accessed from recovery menu.  When I select "Install ZIP from sdcard" I got the message: /dev/block/mmcblk0 no such device...  I think problem is with presence switch in sdcard connector. (I use mknod to create /dev/block/mmcblk0 and got error "No such device or address" when trying to mount card)

  But card can be accessed without problem from Android itself (I have version 2.2). As I think this is because different kernels loaded when I start recovery menu and when I start android.

  There is dmesg output when I remove and insert SD-card:

Code: [Select]
[  326.043051] msmsdcc_platform_status_irq: 82
[  326.043618] [msm_sdcc.c][msmsdcc_check_status][SDCC1]
[  326.664156] msm_sdcc_card_detect: SD card detect (1)
[  326.665144] mmc0: Slot status change detected (0 -> 1)
[  326.671856] [msm_sdcc.c][mmc_rescan]
[  326.675289] [SD][mmc_rescan][card in]XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
[  326.687149] msm_sdcc_setup_power: (vreg_enable: vreg_mmc)
[  326.775819] msmsdcc_platform_status_irq: 82
[  326.776399] [msm_sdcc.c][msmsdcc_check_status][SDCC1]
[  327.396939] msm_sdcc_card_detect: SD card detect (0)
[  327.397916] mmc0: Slot status change detected (1 -> 0)
[  327.403738] msmsdcc_platform_status_irq: 82
[  327.404283] [msm_sdcc.c][msmsdcc_check_status][SDCC1]
[  328.026631] msm_sdcc_card_detect: SD card detect (0)
[  328.033264] msm_sdcc_setup_power: (vreg_disable: vreg_mmc)
[  328.034551] mmc0: error -123 whilst initialising SD card
[  328.039389] mmc_rescan: (storage_state : 0)
[  328.043768] [msm_sdcc.c][mmc_rescan]
[  328.046799] [SD][mmc_rescan][card in]XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
[  328.056326] msm_sdcc_setup_power: (vreg_enable: vreg_mmc)
[  328.066236] msm_sdcc_setup_power: (vreg_disable: vreg_mmc)
[  328.067404] mmc_rescan: (storage_state : 0)

  I have use different cards with some result. But only once I mounted one of my cards successfully for short period of time.

  So my question is: is there possibility to install update to android 2.3 without sdcard?

  My phone is "Highscreen Zeus" made by foxconn for "Vobis computers" (in Russia). As I know it is fully equivalent of Geekphone One.

PS: The following I see in dmesg when inserting SD-card very slowly:
Code: [Select]
[ 1839.527624] msmsdcc_platform_status_irq: 82
[ 1839.528188] [msm_sdcc.c][msmsdcc_check_status][SDCC1]

I don't know of a way to flash the phone without SD card access, but:

Have you tried to flash a different recovery image onto the phone from inside android?
Sounds to me as if your recovery is somehow broken, most likely as you suggest yourself a kernel not capable of accessing the SD card.

This should study it. I think it can be used.
