Revolution - data transfer over USB very slow
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:24:32 AM »
Hi everybody :-)

Did you also made the experience that when you copy data from your PC to the SD card of your revolution, it takes so long.

I changed USB ports and cables but no difference: I just can copy with 800 kbyte - 1 MB / sec

With my older samsung wave 2 (2011) it took less time to copy files to SD card or to interal storage. also my external drives work faster - so it looks like there's nothing going wrong with my usb ports

Is this also a bug in this version of Firefox OS or is the read / write speed that bad ?  :(

I'm using

Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
USB 2.0
Geeksphone Revolution FFOS 1.3pre with a 32 GB SDCard Class 10 (the sdcard should not be the problem)
My PC is about 5 years old - so not that old  ;)

Jepp, I observed the same just yesterday and thought about making a post. When I transferred music files it would not be any faster than 600kb/sec.

Also Ubuntu 12.04

I'm using Android.
With kUbuntu 13.10 I can't access to files, but with Linux Mint yes.

In Mint music files are transferred at 2MB/s and 1 second at 12B/s (when changing the file). A folder with 160MB in files copies in less than a half of a minute.

in kubuntu, have you installed the package "kio-mtp"? KDE needs it to recognize the revolution. Then, all works perfectly :)

Thank you for the tip, I installed:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install kio-mtp
But nothing happened, my kubuntu doesn't see the phone.
But don't worry: I'm using ownCloud (that's the reason that I never saw the transfer rate until this post) to copy files to my phone.

Hi, I faced a similar situation, also music files.

First time, after pasting, I left the desk and had dinner, No way to recognize the drop in transfer MB/s to kbit/s.
The next day when I wanted to acces the files I thought to have copied the evening before, I was wondering were they were  ...
At that time, I was under the impression the copying went wrong.

Yesterday I repeated the procedure as I need the files as I have to spend the next week in France  ::)
I took quite a while to copy, but I thought it was working. When it was finished, no new files where on the card.

Right now, the files are copied again, but not with the sd card in the phone, but in a chinese mp4 player  :o
Transfer rate constantly at 2,9 MB/s

Meanwhile ...
Ubuntu 13.10
2gb ram
intel atom 330
sd 32gb

sd card still mounted
folder info 831 Objects  3,6 GB

sd card back in the revolution
explorer shows approx 108 files, same in the music app

the files are on the card, but not accessibe!
 :(

When I got it right, then everybody of us uses Firefox OS as main OS on the Revolution, right?

If Android users also have this speed problem then the hardware is the problem.

I really think that it is the hardware not the type of OS - It's "revolutionary" slow  :(

Bada, you may be rigt with the hardware, but that does not explain, why files on an sd card  are displayed on the PC, but vanish the moment the sd card is in the phone.....  ???

... something else, which might be reated to the sd card.
I received a video file via bluetooth, was on the sd card, i played it with the video app.
then i wanted to send that via LoQui Messenger. screen froze, when I rebooted the phone, the file was gone ...???

Maybe I am just a very very lucky guy, but I NEVER had a spontaneous reboot yet and every file I copied to the SD CARD is still there  :)

What I can say is, that I bought a brand-new sd card for Revolution - here is the link (german ebay)
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=221369943321&view=all&tid=1328874020012

Did you format the sdcard with your PC or is it also a new sd card?
I made a bad experience with that. I always formated the old sd card several times on pc  and my bada smartphone had problems with photos and videos I made with the smartphones camera. Everytime after a few days the smartphone told me that some photos/videos were damaged... Since that time I ONLY format sd cards with the smartphone. Maybe it was just one of many bada bugs, don't know...  :(

Tomorrow there will be a new FOTA - maybe that solves your problem  :)

I hope that the "PC-to-smartphone-performance-dilemma" can be fixed with a software update / in future versions  :-[

I have the same problem in here but when I used my wife phone for testing, the speed is much faster. So i think it is the problem with sd card on the phone. or you can try android file transfer app for a try.
