KEON by (gp) / Re: Headset for the KEON?
« on: January 16, 2015, 02:03:45 AM »
Just got a Plantronics M70, and that pairs well! I haven't yet tested speaking.

By the way, I also have a Flame, but I'm back to the KEON for everyday use: The Flame's hardware is unstable (sometimes just turns off), and reception is bad.

KEON by (gp) / Headset for the KEON?
« on: October 12, 2014, 08:04:35 AM »
My Keon with firmware 1.3 does not detect my old Plantronics 510 bluetooth headset. So, I bought a simple wired headset, a Sony MDR EX110AP headset. Sound quality is horrible, but that's not the main problem: The microphone doesn't work! When I press the button on the cable, this has an effect on sound, which gets louder, but not on the microphone. On an Android device, a Huawei Sonic, both headsets work without problem.

What headset should I get? Or, alternatively, which firmware should I try?

To be honest, I'm not very optimistic. Could be time for a new phone, perhaps a Flame.

KEON by (gp) / Re: About Battery for KEON
« on: October 12, 2014, 07:49:47 AM »
I asked about a new battery in June, and Miguel replied with: "Although we have not them available on our webshop, we could gladly provide you with a battery for your KEON, the payment should be done via bank transfer."

However, I did not make use of the offer: I figured out that the reason for my phone's battery dying quickly is a software issue. With 1.3 it's all too easy to activate the camera from the lock screen with the phone in the pocket, and that drains the battery quickly.

Roms / Original recovery image?
« on: September 18, 2014, 04:57:12 AM »
I installed the TWRP recovery image provided by @c.val:
Code: [Select]
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-GK.img
How do I get back to the recovery image preinstalled by Geeksphone? Where do I find it?

Roms / Firefox OS 2.x firmwares unusable - is it me?
« on: September 14, 2014, 03:07:57 PM »
I use the Keon as my main phone, i.e. for day-to-day use. As it's a developer device, I am quite tolerant to the odd bug. Normally I run a 1.x firmware. I've mostly been happy with version 1.3.

Occasionally I try a 2.x firmware. For example, today I installed v2.0-2014-09-06, which I downloaded some days ago. However, that one has so many issues that it's basically unusable: Apps crash all the time, Persona sign-in doesn't work as expected, etc.

In general, the 2.x firmwares for the Keon are unusable for me.

What's your experience?

Maybe it's better to get a Flame for playing with 2.x?

General Discussion / Announcement Blackphone?
« on: January 11, 2014, 01:40:53 AM »
As of 11 January 2014 CET, it says on Wikipedia: “…the company has announced a new phone called Blackphone as of 10 January 2014…”

Where is the announcement?

Bugs / Why no landscape mode in nightly?
« on: November 24, 2013, 12:28:26 PM »
More than two weeks ago, I filed a bug report, but there is no response so far. Perhaps this is specific to the build for the Keon.

Or is the orientation sensor in my device broken?

The latest nightly that I tried: http://downloads.geeksphone.com/keon/master/nightly-images-keon-master-2013-11-24.Gecko-bff5acf.Gaia-c736d91.zip

Bugs / Re: Did I brick my KEON?
« on: November 20, 2013, 03:44:49 PM »
The KEON is alive again. :D

I realized that I can navigate UI elements on the phone screen by:

  • Swipe right: next element
  • Swipe left: previous element
  • Double tap: click

This somewhat resembles tabbing navigation in a desktop browser.

Somehow I managed to unlock the phone, I think by swiping right until the unlock button was highlighted, and then double tapping. While unlocked, I could flash the firmware again.

Bugs / Did I brick my KEON?
« on: November 20, 2013, 03:06:36 PM »
Today, I installed the latest nightly. Later, I was playing with the developer settings. Accidentally, I enabled "Screen reader", and then "Gaia debug traces".

Now I cannot unlock my phone anymore. When I try to move the slider, a rectangle shows up and there is a vibration. That's it.

Also, I cannot shut down the phone regularly. When I long-press the I/O button, then I get to a menu, fine. However, when I tap "Power off", then nothing happens. Of course, I can take out the battery.

Flashing also doesn't work, because for that I need to unlock the device.

What can I do?

General Discussion / Noise reduction of the camera
« on: October 24, 2013, 02:10:50 PM »
Perhaps there's a tiny bit too much noise reduction? ;) The picture was shot in bright sunlight.

The attachments show the full image as well as a 100% crop. The full image is downscaled because otherwise it would exceed this forum's maximum attachment size.

Bugs / No stable 1.1
« on: October 24, 2013, 02:29:30 AM »
According to Mozilla, stable 1.1 was released on October 9, 2013. However, on downloads.geeksphone.com 1.1 it is not listed as stable. Like an alpha/beta it is released everyday, and it really is not stable on my Keon:
  • After booting 1.1 for the first time, I get information that there is an OTA system update available, see attached screenshot. I let it download, install, and reboot. Then the same, over and over: reboot, update, reboot, update, ... (until I just ignore the update notice)
  • There are frequent hangs.
  • Occasionally, there are crashes where I have to take out the battery to reboot.
What's the explanation? No stable 1.1 for the Keon?

According to system information, my Keon has OS version: 1.1.1.0-prerelease
